Why It's So Important

The Safe Community Incentive Program (SCIP) is designed and delivered by the WSIB with participating firms being eligible for a 5% rebate upon completion of the program.

SCIP provides safety training and resources to participating small businesses in the Ottawa area enabling them to implement safety programs, save on WSIB premiums and reduce injuries while improving their bottom lines.

Elements of SCIP include: a self-evaluation of the firm’s health and safety management systems, developing a health and safety policy, analyzing and controlling hazards, development of the health and safety roles and responsibilities of both employers and employees.

To date, 160 Ottawa area firms have graduated from SCIP. Special thanks to the Hydro Ottawa employees who have contributed many hours of volunteer training toward the five module in class training sessions.
